Abstract

The problem of elastoplastic deformation of flexible flat shells of variable thickness with complex reinforcement geometries is formulated. The problem is qualitatively analyzed, the way of its linearization is shown. The results of particular calculations of reinforced plates and flat spherical plates have shown that the carrying capacity of such structures under elastoplastic deformation is several times as high as that under elastic deformation; taking no account of the flexibility of thinwalled composite structures may result in substantially underestimating their carrying capacity.

Key words: flat shells, large deflections, reinforcement, elasticity, plasticity, pre-failure, ultimate loading.
