Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- Absence of plagiarism. The article has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted for review and publication in another journal (or an explanation is given in the Comments for the Editor). The manuscript meets the Publication Ethics requirements and does not contain plagiarism.
- Supplement documents. All the required supporting documents submitted together with the manuscript (see in 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 2.6 of Authors Guide).
- Correct manuscript format. The file of the article is submitted in the format of the document OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF or WordPerfect. The text meets the stylistic and bibliographic requirements described in Authors Guide.
Author Guidelines
All articles are published free of charge. Authors and reviewers of the journal neither have to pay any fee, nor to obtain any remuneration from the publisher.
RULES FOR SUBMITTING, REVIEWING AND PUBLISHING ARTICLES
- Topics of published articles
1.1. The Problems of Strength and Plasticity journal (hereafter the Journal) accepts articles not published previously and not intended for simultaneous publishing in other titles, that contain new results of theoretical and experimental investigations in the field of mechanics of deformed systems and media, computer modeling and numerical analysis of the behavior of machinery, structures and buildings exposed to effects of various physical nature, accounting for various criteria and limitations.
- Rules for design and submission of articles to the editor
2.1. Articles must be submitted to the editor in two copies (editorial office: 603022, Nizhny Novgorod, Gagarin Avenue, 23, building 6, Research Institute for Mechanics, National Research Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod).
2.2. The original copy of the article must be signed by the authors on the last page.
2.3. The length of the article must not exceed 12 pages, including references, figures, tables and programs presented in algorithmic languages. For reviews, the length of the paper can be increased on the agreement with the Editorial Board.
2.4. The article must be supplied with an accompanying letter from the organization where the submitted work was done, a conclusion of the expert committee of this organization stating that the present article can be openly published in press, expert opinion of the internal export control commission of the organization, as well as a license agreement. Note: if authors do not provide the certificate of examination it automatically means that the authors assume full responsibility for complying norms of secrecy and state secrets in the submitted manuscript.
2.5. The following data about the authors of the article must be enclosed on a separate sheet: names, academic degree, academic rank; academic rank of the state academy; position and place of work (organization), address of the organization, telephone, e-mail. The same information must be provided in English.
2.6. An electronic version of the article in WORD format, an exact copy of the article file in .PDF format, pictures (each in a separate file in the .JPG or .BMP format), information about the authors, scanned copies of the accompanying letter from the organization and the conclusion of the expert commission should be sent to the editors by email (ppp@mech.unn.ru).
2.7. The title of the article should be typed in bold type in capital letters, centered. The translation of the title into English should be attached to the article. Subheads (if available) should be typed in bold, aligned to the left with a paragraph indent.
2.8. Text information is typed using the .DOC format (files should contain only Arial, Times, Courier fonts) in 2 intervals (font size 13 pt) on standard A4 sheets. Page margins: left 2.5 cm, right 1.5 cm, upper 2 cm, lower 2 cm. All pages are numbered. The impersonal form of presentation is recommended. The text should not contain extra spaces between words, hyphens and special characters other than the characters contained on the keyboard.
2.9. Figures and tables must be included in the body of the article. Besides, each figure must be represented with a separate JPEG or BMP file. Recommended end-to-end numbering of formulas, figures and tables.
2.10. The article must be accompanied by a summary (about 0,5 page long, from 200 up to 250 words) at the beginning of the article, and a list of key words and word combinations in Russian (not more than 10) and separately in English at the end of the article. The summary must include formulation of the problem, mathematical models used, methods of investigation, obtained results and conclusions. The summary must not contain any references to the literature, or any formulas and abbreviations.
2.11. The body of the article must be preceded by a numeral code of UDC.
2.12. Formulas must be typed using Microsoft Equation 3.0 editor. Formulas excluded from the text must be given after a paragraph indention and divided from the text by a blank line above it and a blank line beneath it. The formulas must be numbered with arabic numerals given in round brackets. The formula numbers must border the right margin of the page. The numbering and the text of comments must be typed in the main body of text, not in the editor for formulas. A reference to a formula in the text is a number in round brackets. The numbering of the formulas must be continuous through the entire text.
2.13. The list of references is given in the order of citation at the end of the article with the names and initials of the authors, the full title of the book (article), publisher, journal name, year, volume, number, number of pages; in the text, the corresponding numbers are indicated in square brackets. The names of foreign sources should be given in the original language.
The quality of the bibliography is one of the signs that the authors of the manuscript are familiar with the current state of the scientific problem under study. The presence of a balance between references to domestic and foreign publications shows how the authors of the manuscript possess the current state of the problem in Russia and abroad.
The editors recommend paying attention to the following when preparing the article:
- Bibliographic information should be up-to-date, authoritative and comprehensive;
- The recommended number of references in the bibliographic list is 20-25;
- Links to articles in journals not older than 5 years, including foreign ones, are welcome;
- Percentage of references in the list of references to articles from foreign scientific journals and other foreign sources is at least 40%;
- Percentage of references in the list of references to articles from Russian-language scientific journals is not more than 30%;
- Authors should refrain from unreasonable self-citation.
- Full Internet addresses (URLs) should be provided for links. To the extent possible, authors should avoid direct links to the Internet sources, as the links may change or become unavailable.
2.14. In the References section, there is a list of references in Roman alphabet, after the title of the article in Roman alphabet, English translation of the title of the article should be placed in square brackets, after the title of the Journal in Roman alphabet, English translation of the title of the Journal should be placed in square brackets. The imprint of the article should be given in English with reference to the language of the article (In Russian). If the list has links to foreign publications, they should be completely repeated in References section.
When translating the titles of publications and sources (if these sources do not have an official English name), please follow the transliteration system presented on http://fotosav.ru/services/transliteration.aspx.
- The procedure for consideration of articles
3.1. The materials submitted to the editorial office are reviewed for their compliance with the requirements of the editorial board in terms of the composition of documents and in terms of meeting the requirements for the design of articles (paragraphs 1, 2) and Publication Ethics requirements. Articles prepared in violation of these requirements will be returned to the authors for revision. If the design meets the requirements of the editors, the article will be submitted for review. Editorial Board reserves the right to edit the text, followed by coordination with the authors.
3.2. In the case of processing the article, the date of receipt is the date of receipt by the editors of the text accepted for publication.
3.3. The following are not allowed to be published in the Journal:
- articles whose topics are not related to the scientific direction of the Journal;
- articles that are not properly designed, the authors of which refuse from the technical revision of the articles;
- articles whose authors have not reworked the article on the constructive comments of the reviewer.
3.4. Terms of consideration and review of articles - no more than three months.
3.5. The editors do not keep manuscripts that are not accepted for publication. Articles accepted for publication will not be returned.
3.6. The Editorial board sends to the authors of the submitted materials a copy of the reviewed article or a motivated rejection.
- The procedure for reviewing articles
4.1. A double-blind peer review is mandatory for all scientific manuscripts submitted to the editorial stuff. This implies that neither the reviewer is aware of the authorship of the manuscript, nor the authors maintain any contact with the reviewer.
4.2. Scientists, who have a recognized authority, working in the field of knowledge, to which the content of the article belongs, and having publications on the subject of the article under review in the last 3 years, are invited to review. The decision on selecting a reviewer is made by the editor-in-chief. When submitting a manuscript, the author may submit an external review, but this does not exclude the usual reviewing procedure.
4.3. Reviewers do not have the right to take advantage of knowledge about the content of the work prior to its publication.
4.4. Reviewers are obliged to follow the principles of professional ethics, posted on the website of the Journal on the Internet.
4.5. Peer-Review
4.5.1. The review of the submitted article is carried out in two stages. At the first stage, the article submitted by the author is handled by an acceptant who checks weather it meets the formal requirements. The list of requirements is posted on the Journal's website on the Internet.
4.5.2. After having been considered by the acceptant, the article is sent to the peer reviewer who is an expert in the field concerned.
4.5.3. The review is made on a specific form, which is developed and approved by the editorial stuff.
4.5.4. Reviewing term is 3 weeks. The review is submitted to the executive secretary of the journal.
4.5.5. Following the results of reviewing, the article may be either rejected, or sent to the author for revision, or accepted for publishing.
4.5.6. In the case of a negative evaluation of the article, the reviewer must substantiate his conclusions. If the manuscript does not conform to one or more criteria, the reviewer indicates the need for further revision of the article and makes recommendations stating the inaccuracies and errors made by the author.
4.6. The editorial stuff brings to the authors’ attention the result of the review. Articles refined by the authors are re-sent for review to the same reviewer who made critical comments, or to another one at the editor’s discretion.
4.7. If the authors disagree with the reviewer’s comments, they may apply for a second review or withdraw the article, what is being reported to the editors of the Journal.
4.8. In the case of a negative review, the article is transferred to another reviewer, who is not aware of the previous review results.
4.9. The final decision on the feasibility of publication after reviewing is taken by the editorial board.
4.10. Reviews are kept in the journal’s editorial office for 5 years.
4.11. The editorial staff of the Journal sends copies of reviews to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation upon receipt of the relevant request by the editor.
The editorial board of the journal “Problems of Strength and Plasticity” proposes to add an ORCID to the list of data of scientific articles to meet the entry requirements into the International Scientific Database. Read more about this in the ORCID information section.
