<p>The theoretical foundations of optimal planning of fatigue tests for materials and structural components are considered. The relevance of the study is driven by the high cost and long duration of experimental construction of fatigue curves (S–N diagrams), especially in the high-cycle region, as well as by the presence of pronounced heteroscedasticity – the dependence of fatigue life scatter on its mean value. A nonlinear weighted least squares method is proposed for the simultaneous estimation of all parameters of the fatigue curve without preliminary linearization, which eliminates the fundamental drawback of traditional approaches – the loss of the random nature of the fatigue limit and the consequent underestimation of its confidence intervals. For two parametric models (steels and light alloys), analytical expressions are derived for the Jacobian matrix, the Fisher information matrix, and the asymptotic covariance matrix of the parameter estimates. Based on the delta method, a formula for the variance of the finite-life fatigue strength is obtained. An economic cost model for testing is developed, combining specimen preparation and machine time expenditures. A two-stage hybrid optimization method is proposed: the first stage performs asymptotic accuracy estimation using binary search, while the second stage provides verification via the Monte Carlo method, which allows proper accounting for actual accuracy in small samples (n &lt; 25), where classical asymptotic yield errors of up to 40%. A relationship is established between the relative standard error of the fatigue strength estimate, the coefficient of variation, and the quantile of the Student's t-distribution, enabling the transition from statistical criteria to engineering accuracy requirements.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>усталостные испытания</kwd><kwd>кривая усталости</kwd><kwd>нелинейная регрессия</kwd><kwd>гетероскедастичность</kwd><kwd>матрица Фишера</kwd><kwd>метод дельты</kwd><kwd>бинарный поиск</kwd><kwd>метод Монте-Карло</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>fatigue tests</kwd><kwd>fatigue curve</kwd><kwd>nonlinear regression</kwd><kwd>heteroscedasticity</kwd><kwd>Fisher matrix</kwd><kwd>delta method</kwd><kwd>binary search</kwd><kwd>Monte Carlo method</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Zhao Y., Liu Y., Zhang M.
